A look back at 2025 – Richard Frisk

As 2026 bursts into view it seems appropriate to summarise the events of 2025 through the eyes of the Parish Council here in Bulkeley and Ridley. There has been a lot going on both behind the scenes and in the open to keep us busy this year.

First, I took over the Chairman role when Idina Hastings stepped down in May; it seemed a formidable task to fill those shoes. In practice, the role of the PC and its councillors was well established and it has proven to be a smooth transition with support from all around.

Projects that have consumed our time since May have been varied and have had equally varied results for the community.

We now have 2 working and maintained AED units (defibrillators) with one in each village. A familiarisation course is planned for January 2026 to address any issues that people may have over their intended use and what to do should the need arise; see separate note for details.

Part of the role of the PC is to maintain the open spaces within the villages; to this end, a lot of effort has been put into the playing field in Bulkeley so that all and any member of the community can use this facility for their enjoyment. Over the years, previously installed equipment has reached the end of its life and to keep abreast of this, a new set of goalposts was installed – a great achievement as all of the installation was completed by PC members thus keeping costs to a minimum whilst taking advantage of the councillors’ inherent skills.

Perhaps the most visible addition to the playing field has been the installation of the Ninja Trail play/exercise equipment which was achieved using a Lottery Fund grant. The equipment was purchased from a nationwide supplier of this type of kit and installed professionally by the manufacturer. I am sure that our imagination will put it to good use over the coming years.

A third structure worthy of note on the field is a green garden shed. This is for use by the Bootcampers – a group of exercise-minded villagers keen to get off their sofas and exercise in the outdoors. Open to all ages and abilities, free of charge and run by volunteers. The shed has been donated from within the village and the PC has sponsored the basic fitness equipment.

The A543 trunk road has attracted a lot of attention over the years and none more so than at present. As vehicles become larger, heavier and inevitably faster, they present a considerable danger to anyone using the road either on foot or by road. Attempts to improve road safety and to protect residents are on-going but as always are governed by Cheshire East Council and we find ourselves having little improvement to show for considerable effort. Led by Simon Jordan, the PC has pushed for action with the Police, East Cheshire Highways, the Ward Councillor and the local Member of Parliament. Efforts will continue into 2026 when we hope that some reward will show for our endeavours.

Additional notices on the website will provide information on a Defibrillator awareness event and an introduction to the new Ninja Trail equipment with ideas for its use.

Here is to a healthy and safe 2026; Happy New Year,

Richard Frisk
