If you are unsure how and when to use a defibrillator, please read on!
A defibrillator is a device that gives a jolt of energy to the heart. It helps get the heart beating correctly again when someone is in
cardiac arrest and their heart is beating erratically, (known as ‘ventricular fibrillation’).
Anyone can use a defibrillator. You do not need training. Once you turn it on, it will give clear step-by-step voice instructions whether or not it is required and then how to use it.
When someone is suspected of a sudden cardiac arrest, every second counts. In those crucial moments, a defibrillator can make the difference between life and death. The type of device at both Bulkeley and Ridley is known as an AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) and it gives precise instructions on how to open and use it. To be used in conjunction with a 999 call.
